Teachers banned for running private academies in school Time

This document from the Government of the Punjab School Education Department addresses the issue of public school teachers running private academies or teaching in private institutes, especially during school hours.

Prohibition: Public school teachers are prohibited from running academies or teaching in private institutes during official school hours, as this violates service terms and compromises their role as public servants.

Conflict of Interest: This practice creates a conflict of interest, potentially undermining commitment to official duties and leading to favouritism or unequal treatment of students.

Vigilance and Monitoring: Principals and heads of public institutions are directed to be vigilant, ensure compliance, and monitor teachers’ activities to prevent unauthorised private teaching.

Disciplinary Action: Non-compliance will be considered negligence, and disciplinary action will be initiated against teachers found in violation of these instructions.

Subject: RUNNING ACADEMIES OR TEACHING IN ACADEMIES AND PRIVATE INSTITUTES SPECIALLY IN SCHOOL TIMINGS.

I am directed to state that as a part of our on-going efforts to monitor and maintain highest standards of professionalism and integrity within our public education system, it has been observed that some public-school teachers are engaged in running private academies and teaching practices outside their official duties specially within duty hours. This practice not only contravenes the term of their service but also compromises their primary responsibility as public servant.

2 I am further directed to state that being public school teachers, their primary duty is to provide quality education to its students within the public school. Their engagement in private academies and teaching practices creates a conflict of interest, undermines the teacher’s commitment to their official duties and may lead to favoritism and un-equal treatment of students.

3. I am also directed to state that all principals, heads of public institutions be vigilant and ensure that no teacher / head teacher under their supervision is involved in such practices and further directed to closely monitor the activities of teachers within and outside school premises to prevent any un-authorized private teaching or running of academies. If any teacher is found involved in violation of rules, service regulations and breach of code of conduct, disciplinary action may be initiated against them, by the Competent Authority.

4 In view of above, these instructions may be disseminated to field formations for strict adherence in letter and spirit, non-compliance in this regard shall be considered negligence on the part of officer concerned and disciplinary action shall be taken against them.
